Evaporation par récompression mécanique de vapeur (MVR)

The thermal compressor can be substituted by a mechanical compressor. In this case, all the vapour given off can be recompressed to be used for heating the evaporator. The steam consumption is nil (apart from the pre-heating when starting-up the process), and the energy required to drive the compressor is the only necessary energy consumption. The present costs of thermal energy and mechanical energy make mechanical vapour recompression attractive for the evaporation of any solution whose boiling point elevation is moderate.
